Emotion Bakery is a non-profit store located on college campuses. It provides a guided experience to help young adults to cope with negative emotions using mindfulness techniques, hence, increase mental health awareness. It uses a fun and interactive concept to introduce the concept of mental health, baking bread, nourishing the mind is like baking bread, it needs time, effort, love, and care.
WHY EMOTION BAKERY?
Have you experienced any negative emotions like depression, anxiety, or feeling lost? How did you cope with them?
Mental health issues are more common among people nowadays, especially for young adults aged around 18-25, a phase when they are entering adulthood, there will be a lot of mental health obstacles while figuring out the life direction.
In a survey conducted in March 2020, 57% of 121 young adults (18-25y/o) show little to no interest in mental health, while 100% of them expressed being bothered by negative emotions.
Emotion Bakery is a non-profit store located on college campuses. It provides an interactive experience to help young adults cope with negative emotions, through mindfulness practices of journaling, and small meditation exercises. In order to attract the target audience, it uses a new concept as an analogy to cope with emotion: baking bread.

THE BRAND CONCEPT
Bread symbolizes sharing and welcome. It gives people happiness and warmth. The process of baking bread is like nourishing the mind. Each bread is unique and is dense in volume, as it’s made up of time, care, effort, and love.
Emotion is a way to understand onself better, especially the negative ones. It is important to spend time with the negative emotion, to understand why you are feeling this way, and the information the mind is trying to tell you, by being mindful, a practice of time, care, love, and compassion.

The bread will be put inside the bread bag, that has space for you to journal down the experience you had coping with the emotion today.

In order to better immerse the user into the mindfulness exercises, there is a narrator and music along with the practices. Please make sure to plug in your earphone, to enjoy the full experience of the mindfulness exercise interaction.
Sample Emotion Bread Booklets
At the Emotion Kiosk, you will choose which emotion is bothering you and you would like to explore. Then, in order to boost in positivity, you will name the emotion bread booklet the opposite emotion; the emotion you would like to feel. You will get the emotion bread booklet of your emotion. Below are three samples of emotion bread booklets.
The combination of Journaling and Small Mindfulness Exercises
All the instructions of the coping process are written inside the Emotion Bread Booklet. There are two portions involved in this process. First, you will journal down the feelings, thoughts, and observations you experienced when you are feeling this negative emotion. Then, you will use the tablet on the table provided to do two mindfulness exercises.
After completing the exercises on the tablet, you will receive a four-number code. Take the code to the Bakery Kiosk, then you may see the real bread of your choice is baked! This marks the end of your emotion baking process.
